September/October 2024
This year we welcomed eight children to Junior Infants. Everyone settled in really well and Senior Infants were very welcoming to the new children.
We were busy with our nursery rhymes, our rhyming words and learning about length and capacity. We enjoyed exploring floating and sinking.
We had visits from a garda who taught us about road safety and we also had a visit from Ciaran from Green Schools who also spoke about transport.
We now look forward to the mid-term break
November/December 2024
We were very busy over the last couple of months. We baked gingerbread men with Lisa. We read the story The Gingerbread Man and designed our own gingerbread people. Senior Infants explored different ways of adding up to number 15. Junior Infants learned up to number 5. We enjoyed snow days at home this term too. We baked banana muffins with Lisa too. We are now all looking forward to our Christrmas break
September 2023
September has been a very busy month in the infant room. We welcomed back our Senior Infant class and we were delighted to welcome our new pupils in Junior Infants. We enjoyed lots of activities such as developing our motor skills, songs and rhymes. We practiced running and jumping skills. We enjoyed a dance workshop and a drama workshop in Ballyhaunis library. We also enjoyed dressing up for Halloween
November/ December
In November we enjoyed learning under our theme of Toys. We brought in some of our favourite toys for Show and Tell. We examined the materials that our toys are made from. We also learned the names of some of our toys in our Gaeilge lessons.
We enjoyed Heritage Day where we learned about our local plants and animals.
One of our highlights was baking gingerbread men with Lisa.
We now look forward to our Christmas break. We have been busy decorating our classroom and keeping an eye on our cheeky elf!
January/February
After Christmas we got busy with our new theme based on Superheroes. We made masks, created super powers and even turned ourselves into superheroes. We learnt about magnets and explored Inuit people and animals that live in cold climates. We were lucky enough to have a couple of snow days in school too. We had a visit from the mobile library which we all enjoyed.
March/April
In March we were delighted to welcome our families to the school for Family Day. we performed the song Molly Malone and we talked about what we like best about our families. Our parents enjoyed looking at our art exhibition too.
We enjoyed Active Week in March. We went to the hall daily for some active lessons with Mr. Healy.
In April we visited the local church. We enjoyed some sunny days on the yard and we practiced our ball handling skills in PE. Senior Infants continue to improve their reading and Juniors are greatly improving their writing skills.
September has been a very busy month so far. We have welcomed our Junior Infant class to our school while Senior Infants have been settling back into another school year. We have been busy developing our fine motor skills, our phonological awareness and our reading skills while also having fun singing songs and playing games.
October 2022
October was a very busy month in the infant classroom. We started the month with a trip to Ballyhaunis library for a puppet show! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed watching The Three Little Pigs. We were very busy in the classroom too. We explored Autumn and we enjoyed the build-up to Halloween. We finished the month by dressing up in our Halloween costumes and enjoyed a day of games and treats.
November 2022
November was full of fun and learning. We explored the story The Gingerbread Man. We designed our own gingerbread men, we sequenced the story and we made gingerbread men out of clay. The World Cup has brought great excitement to our classroom. Everyone got a team to support. We did role play of going to the World Cup and we designed our own World Cup trophy's using junk art. The excitement continues as some of our teams are still involved in the competition. In the classroom, we explored 2D and 3D shapes, we built puzzles and we learned about keeping ourselves healthy.
December 2022
December was an exciting month for us. Not only did we look forward to our long awaited Christmas Holidays but we celebrated Christmas in the classroom too. We enjoyed art projects, singing and dancing.
January 2023
January was a busy month for us. We learned about winter and we even got to play in the snow. Our class discovered the Mr. Men series of books and we enjoyed reading, watching and creating our own Mr. Men characters. We enjoyed making fruit salad with Lisa and we had fun with Jojo from Creative Schools
February 2023
In February, we learned about weather and day and night. In art we learned about mixing paint to make light and dark shades. We practiced gymnastics in PE and we learned about lent. We also enjoyed baking gingerbread men with Lisa
March 2023
In March we looked forward to St Patrick's Day by learning about St Patrick and decorating our classroom in shamrocks. We also looked forward to our Easter holidays and ended the term with a very enjoyable Active Week.
April 2023
The weather improved this month and this meant that it was time for us to start gardening. We planted potatoes with Lisa. We enjoyed Heritage Day, where we explored native trees and flowers and even went on a bug hunt! This month we also enjoyed doing PE outdoors. We also had a visit from our Creative Schools co-ordinator, Jojo, who brought us outside to draw on the ground with chalk.
May 2023
In May we welcomed our caterpillars to the classroom. The children enjoyed watching them grow and become cocoons. We explored the lifecycle of the butterfly. We were very busy this month with Creative Schools. We enjoyed a day of drumming and we enjoyed a dance lesson.
June 2023
In early June we got to see our caterpillars emerge as butterflies. We released them in the school yard. We had lots of fun in the sun on Sports Day. Everyone enjoyed taking part and cooling off with a water fight. We also enjoyed a magic show. As we finish off our last few days in Junior and Senior Infants, we look forward to our Summer break and we look forward to more fun next year, and of course lots of hard work!
